In short: your documents, photos and the text read from them never leave your phone. We don't run a server that receives your files, and you don't need an account.
SmartScan ("the app", package com.syrustech.smartscan) is made by Syrus Tech ("we"). This policy
explains what information the app handles and why.
Your documents stay on your device
Everything the app does with your files happens on your phone or tablet:
- Documents you scan, photos and PDFs you import, and PDFs you create are saved to your device's Documents and Pictures folders. We never upload, view, store or share them.
- Text recognition (OCR) in English and Hindi runs with models built into the app. The text it reads is never sent anywhere.
- Smart features (suggested file names, document categories such as "Invoice", duplicate detection and the blur warning) work on that on-device text and on the image itself. Duplicate detection keeps a fingerprint (hash) of each file inside the app only.
- Signatures you draw or import are stored privately inside the app so you can reuse them. You can delete them at any time.
- QR and barcode scanning and the document scanner camera are provided by Google Play services and run on your device. The app receives only the scanned images or the code's content.
- When you export a photo, the app removes location and camera details (EXIF data) from the copy.
No account
The app doesn't ask you to sign in and doesn't collect your name, email address or phone number.
App lock
If you turn on App lock, the app asks Android to check your fingerprint, face, PIN, pattern or password. Android does the check; the app only learns whether it succeeded. Your biometric data never reaches the app.
Information collected by third-party services
The app is free and supported by ads. To show ads, check purchases and improve stability, it uses the services below. They may collect information from your device as described in their own policies.
Google AdMob (ads). AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, approximate location (from
your IP address), app interaction and diagnostic information to show ads, measure them and prevent fraud. In the
EEA, the UK and other places where the law requires it, the app asks for your consent before personalized ads are
shown. You can change your choice at any time in Me > Ad privacy options. You can also reset or delete
your advertising ID in your device settings.

Google Play Billing (Premium). If you buy SmartScan Premium, Google Play processes the payment. We receive only the purchase status needed to unlock Premium. We never see your card or payment details.
Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and Remote Config (Google). When enabled, these collect anonymous
usage statistics, crash reports and device information (such as model, OS version and an app installation ID) so
we can fix bugs and adjust how often ads appear. This information isn't used to identify you.

Permissions
The app uses internet access only for ads, purchases and the services above, and the biometric permission only for App lock. It doesn't request camera, storage, contacts or location permissions; you choose each file through Android's own pickers.
Data retention and deletion
We don't hold any personal data on our own servers. Files you create stay on your device until you delete them. Uninstalling the app removes its settings, saved signatures and file list. Data collected by the services above is kept according to Google's retention policies.
Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date.
